Charleston, I'll Never Shut Up About You

An unapologetic love letter from someone who's basically emotionally dependent on this city
There are trips you take once and forget about (sorry, random weekend in wherever). And then there are places that sink their claws into your personality and become a permanent character trait.
Charleston, South Carolina, is very much the latter for me.
At this point, I've been to Charleston enough times that people ask, "Oh, is that where you lived?" and I have to explain that no, I did not live there -- I just deeply romanticize it, constantly compare other cities to it, and plan my milestone birthday trips around it. Totally normal behavior.
As I inch closer to 30 (fake cough almost 30), and plan to celebrate that iconic birthday in Charleston this September, I realized something important: I love this city in a way that's a little unhinged, a little bougie, and very on-brand for someone who religiously watches Southern Charm, lives for a good rooftop bar, and believes beach days should involve live music and drinks with fruit in them.
So this is my official Charleston blog post. A guide. A journal entry. A PSA. A cry for help? Possibly. But mostly: why Charleston will always be that girl.
The First Thing You Need to Know: Charleston Feels Like a Bravo Show That You're Allowed to Be On
Let's address the elephant in the room: Southern Charm absolutely ruined me in the best way possible.
Charleston somehow manages to feel historic and charming while also screaming "someone is definitely blacking out on King Street tonight." It's old money meets espresso martinis. Cobblestone streets by day, DJ-backed champagne chaos by night.
Walking around Charleston feels like you're accidentally going to walk past Shep arguing with someone, Austen holding a beer for the 12th hour straight, or Craig telling you about his next business idea. Whether you love or hate the cast, the vibe is unmatched: flirty, fun, chaotic, and slightly unhinged -- but in a curated way.
And honestly? I don't just watch Bravo. I experience Bravo. Charleston gets that.
Uncork Charleston: Or As I Call It, The Moment I Fell Even Harder
If Charleston were a personality type, Uncork Charleston would be the flawless first impression.
This place is hands down one of my favorite spots in the city, and not just because I'm a wine girl who loves a curated experience. It's a cute wine bar, but not in a stuffy, whisper-only way. It's fun. It's social. It's dangerously easy to stay for "just one more."
Here's why Uncork is elite:
You can pour exactly how much wine you want (which is both empowering and a personal test of self-control).
The charcuterie boards are unreal -- like, don't even pretend you're "not hungry."
They have actual bands sometimes, which turns it into wine bar meets mini party.
And the star of the show: the espresso martini.
I am not exaggerating when I say this was the best espresso martini of my life. Not "top five." Not "really good." Life-changing. Creamy, smooth, strong, and devastating in the best way. The kind of drink that makes you rethink every espresso martini you've tolerated before it.
Also, if not everyone wants wine? Relax. There's a small bar too. Everyone's happy. Everyone's cute. Everyone stays longer than planned.
Highly recommend. No notes.
Uptown Social: Peak Rooftop Day Drinking Energy
If you go to Charleston and don't day drink on a rooftop, did you even go to Charleston?
Uptown Social is an absolute must -- especially on Saturdays (and sometimes Sundays, when the vibes are just right and no one has responsibilities). This is where brunch energy dissolves into full-blown day drinking without anyone acknowledging it out loud.
Here's the scene:
Rooftop bar.
Sun shining.
Music playing.
Everyone pretending they "just stopped by."
The crowd is fun, the drinks go down easy, and the energy is perfect for that moment when your group looks around and realizes, "Oh, we're committing to today."
Bonus points because Uptown Social sometimes has local clothing brands selling the CUTEST stuff. Nothing screams Charleston like buzzed shopping for a sundress you absolutely did not need but will convince yourself you did.
Share House: DJ, Champagne, Chaos (Complimentary)
Now let's talk about my absolute favorite place for weekend nights and Sunday Funday alike: Share House.
This place understands the assignment.
It doesn't matter what day of the weekend you go -- Share House is consistently:
Popping.
Loud.
Fun.
Slightly chaotic in a way that feels controlled (kind of).
They've got DJs, live music, and drinks that do not mess around. The orange crushes are elite, refreshing, and dangerous. And yes -- there is a champagne squirt gun.
Nothing bonds a group of girls faster than realizing champagne is about to be sprayed somewhere irresponsible.
Share House is the kind of place where you swear you'll leave early, then suddenly it's dark, you're dancing with strangers, and your voice is hoarse from yelling over the music. As it should be.
Harry's on the Market: A Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Bar
Harry's deserves more credit than it gets.
On the surface, it might seem like just another multi-level bar -- but Harry's is sneaky good.
Downstairs has more of a classic, classy vibe. Sometimes there's an older band playing that makes you feel like you accidentally wandered into a scene from a rom-com -- but in a comforting way.
Upstairs? Whole different energy.
The second floor has:
Lounge areas
A huge dance floor
Live music on weekend nights
Indoor and outdoor space
It's spacious enough that you don't feel suffocated, but lively enough that you're not bored. Harry's is perfect for groups when no one can agree on a vibe -- because you can bounce around the building until something sticks.
Saltwater Cowboys & Red's: Waterfront Chaos You'll Happily Uber For
Sometimes, Charleston demands a quick uber ride. And when it does, Saltwater Cowboys is worth every minute of the drive.
This place is:
On the water
Absolutely POPPING on weekend nights
Shockingly fun during the day, too
It's one of those places where the energy is infectious. You don't even have to be in the mood -- you'll get there.
Right next door is Red's, which has a much more laid-back vibe and a small rooftop. It's chill, it's packed when the weather's nice, and it's perfect for that "one drink turns into five" scenario. Fun fact: I met my current boyfriend of 5 years on this rooftop.
This whole are scream Charleston summer energy, and I mean that in the best way possible.
86 Queen: The Love of My Life (Food Edition)
If I could only pick ONE restaurant in Charleston to eat at for the rest of my life, it would be 86 Queen.
This is not an exaggeration.
86 Queen is my favorite brunch AND dinner spot -- which is rare, because not everywhere can do both and still crush it.
The menu?
Insane.
Comforting.
Elevated without being pretentious.
The kind where you want to order half the menu "to share" (but secretly don't).
Whether you're there for brunch before a day of wandering or dinner before going out, it hits every single time. If you skip 86 Queen, I genuinely question your decision-making skills.
Taking a Break From Drinking (Yes, It's Possible)
Shockingly, Charleston also has things to do when you need a moment of hydration and sunlight.
Charleston City Market
Right in the middle of everything, this big indoor/outdoor market is perfect for wandering, shopping, and pretending you're a casual observer of local culture.
There are tons of small shops, handmade goods, gifts, and little souvenirs that somehow always end up in your bag. It's also conveniently located if you want to pop in and out between bars.
The Pineapple Fountain
Is it touristy? Yes.
Is it adorable? Absolutely.
The pineapple fountain is cute for photos, iconic, and somehow feels like a rite of passage. You take the picture. You pretend it was spontaneous. You post it later.
Citrus Club: Cute, Girly, Expensive (With Notes)
Let me be clear: Citrus Club is adorable.
The rooftop has a very girly, aesthetic vibe -- perfect for pictures, birthday outfits, and sunset moments. If you're planning a trip that involves outfit planning (you are), you'll want to go.
However -- and I say this with love -- the drinks are really expensive, and the espresso martini was... something to be desired. Not bad. But after Uncork? Hard comparison.
Worth it for the vibe. Just manage your expectations (and maybe your bar tab).
Rainbow Row: Postcard-Perfect Charleston Energy
If you've ever Googled Charleston, you've seen Rainbow Row.
The colorful houses are stunning, classic, and absolutely worth walking by for photos. It's one of those spots that reminds you why Charleston is so visually iconic.
Pro tip: go earlier in the day or during golden hour for fewer people and better lighting.
Beach Days Done Right: Folly Beach & Isle of Palms
Charleston beaches are the kind that understand fun.
Folly Beach
Folly is lively, relaxed, and full of personality. There are tons of fun bars, live music, and that carefree beach town vibe that makes you forget what day it is.
Isle of Palms
Equally fun, slightly more laid back depending on the area, and great for live music and beach concerts. Both spots deliver exactly what you want from a Charleston beach day: sun, drinks, music, and zero pressure to do anything productive.
Shopping on King Street: Dangerously Elite
King Street shopping is elite.
From big name stores to unique finds, it's the kind of place where you "just browse" and somehow leave with multiple bags. Whether you're killing time during the day or walking it off after brunch, King Street is a must.
Little Palm Bar: Cuteee Brunch Moment
Ending this list with Little Palm Bar because it deserves it.
This place is cute cute. The vibes are cozy, the brunch is solid, and it's perfect for slower mornings when you need something pretty but peaceful.
Final Thoughts: Why Charleston Will Always Be That Girl
Charleston isn't just a place I've visited. It's a place I feel.
It's where beach days blend into rooftop nights, where espresso martinis feel like a personality trait, where every corner looks good in photos, and where you can romanticize being almost 30 without spiraling.
As I plan to celebrate my 30th birthday there this September, I already know it'll be perfect. Because Charleston doesn't just host trips -- it elevates them.
And honestly? I'll probably never stop talking about it.
If you need me, I'll be planning outfits, rewatching Southern Charm for the third time, and pretending I don't already know exactly where I'm going every night.
Charleston, I love you.
